When We’re Gone
Jim Chessing, USA
Joy McCall, UK
I read today
that the Major Oak
of Sherwood Forest has died
something in me also
in ways my heart can't say
I pray
that the great old trees
live long in peace
free from the harm
that mankind can do
who will live
in our poems when we're gone . . .
or is it enough
that they lived in us
and we in them, if briefly?
So beautiful and heartwarming!
ReplyDeleteWhat a poignant poem that resonated deep within me.
