                        WINDOWS TO A SOUL

[in memory of Sarah D'Avigdor Goldsmid, who tragically
lost her life aged just 21]*

Chagall believed blue to be the colour of love: so when the sun shines through these twelve windows, which he designed in blue stained glass, light itself turns blue, and you are drenched in the auras of the sky, imbued like the very ground and all the world, with blue, or love:

                        in memory
                        of a girl
                        on a blue horse
                        somewhere & everywhere
                        out there in the air

*In the Kent village of Tudeley, the mother of the young woman who died asked Marc Chagall to come and design a church window in her daughter's memory. The ageing artist not only agreed to do this, he actually designed every single window in the church for her, with very moving and beautiful 'narratives' in blue stained glass, so making All Saints' Church Tudeley the only church in existence to have all its windows designed by the famous artist.
