A small thing unfolding
Welcome to issue 2 of Quail Eggs.
Thanks to all for the kind words about issue 1, for the Readers' Choice votes and for your submissions of work for this issue. I hope you enjoy reading it.
I was happy to see that submissions increased between issue 1 and 2 - it looks like more people are becoming aware of this new thing, even with my limited marketing skills! Please help me out if you can and let your tanka writing friends know.
One of the things that always fascinates me about tanka is how much can unfold out of such a small poem as you read it. This is not to suggest that a simple tanka with clear images and an obvious meaning is of lower quality, in fact it may well be harder to write something perfectly clear and simple. But there is a special kind of fun for me in finding my way through something a little ambiguous or surprising, or discovering meaning that takes a while to fully realise. My Editor's choice for this issue is an example of how this kind of unfolding works for me.
