Saudade
The home has grown quieter as I rest with a torn meniscus. Even the squirrels in the garden seem to soften their chatter.
From the bed, I see the empty corner where she once lay. I almost hear the faint thump of her tail, as she circles to my side. Then the warm weight of her golden head rests on my knee.
A cool breeze stirs the curtain. The sky darkens, as clouds portend rain.

where you sleep. . .
my hand moves
to linger on my knee
