This tanka uses the word ‘simpler’ and addresses the nature of simplicity, as well as being simply expressed, so it caught my eye as I was considering my choice of favourite for this issue of Quail Eggs.
I think there is a great deal more skill that it first appears in doing what this beautifully understated tanka does. It seems almost unnecessary to add the encumbrance of commentary to it.
